Sam Center Foundation
The Sam Center Foundation is dedicated to fostering personal growth, academic excellence, and civic responsibility in every young person we serve. To fulfill this mission, the Sam Center Foundation will establish, equip, and manage a dynamic team sports youth center, and scholarship and community outreach program. The Sam Center Foundation hopes to help address the unique needs and aspirations of the youth who reside in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the surrounding area.
sunflower Sports Center - a Dynamic Team Sports Youth Center
The Sam Center Foundation will establish, equip and maintain the Sunflower Sports Center. Sunflower Sports Center will provide indoor sport courts at below market rates to volleyball and basketball clubs in Las Cruces and the surrounding area. In addition to helping clubs reduce operating expenses, the Sunflower Sports Center will provide clubs with amenities such as individual cages to store equipment, team meeting space to review and discuss season objectives and video footage, a shared cross training space with weight systems, and the court capacity to allow teams to train multiple age groups at the same time.
The ultimate goal being to greatly increase youth participation in team sports. The Center will also have open gym time for the community to enjoy.
Scholarship Program
The Sam Center Foundation (SCF) is developing an athletic and academic scholarship program. The athletic scholarship will be need based and distributed equitably amongst the various clubs utilizing the Sunflower Sports Center. The goal is to help families who need financial assistance.
Academic scholarships will be distributed to graduating high school seniors who play club and are interesting in pursuing higher education. The academic scholarships would be merit and character based. The SCF will apply all surplus funds to scholarship. As the SCF grows, so does the scholarship program.
Civic Responsibility
The Sam Center Foundation (SCF) will work to instill civic responsibility in the Center's youth by coordinating community service opportunities for clubs operating at the Sunflower Sports Center. Clubs have community service requirements for their youth participants. By coordinating community service opportunities amongst the various clubs, the SCF believes it can make a greater impact in the community and save the club directors time and resources.
